photographs of blue tongue lizards on this page were taken around
Eneabba. First two show the ability of these creatures to camouflage.
Quite often you simply don't see anything until it gets scared and
tries to crawl away. The last two photos show the one that lives
in our backyard.
"Blue Tongue" is the local name, these creatures have
about a dozen of different common names across the country (like
Bobtail, Sleepy Lizard, etc.). The proper name is "Shingleback"
and additional information can be found on Mick Clemson's Lizards
of Australia Internet site.
