Northam is a nice small town not far (only 97 kilometres) east of Perth. A quite unusual attraction of Northam is a colony of white swans (in case you do not know - native swans here, in Western Australia, are black). Swans were brought from England by Russian settler Oscar Bernard (later mayor of the town) at the turn of 19th century. The colony is the only one to breed naturally in Australia.
