Tasman Peninsula is a short drive from Hobart. Its main attraction is the Port Arthur historic site. Knowing that about 1600 convicts did not make it, that this was a place where solitary confinement was first introduced as a punishment, and that Australia's most heinous shooting took place there several years ago may induce a lot of people to visit it, but we had to give it a miss and instead spent some time at Eaglehawk Neck with its natural attractions.
